Today, the little cabin known as Songedal fjellgard stands alone in the Daladalen valley, but once upon a time this was a large farm and home to several families. Farming operations ceased in 1902 and the farm was abandoned, but the house – which is now a tourist cabin – has remained standing.

Some of the atmosphere from the farm’s heyday still lingers within its walls. At Songedalen Fjellgard, you’ll find what is by far the coolest outdoor toilet in the Lysefjord – here you can sit on a ‘throne’ made from a massive tree stump whilst doing your business!

Hikes and activities

A gravel track leads all the way to the cabin and further into the Daladalen valley. This makes it a great area to get out your mountain bike!

Songedalen Fjellgard is also part of the spectacular ‘Around Lysefjorden’ route, and there are marked trails to the tourist cabins at Lysebotn and Bakken Gard.

Food and accommodation

Songedalen Fjellgard is an unstaffed DNT cabin with no food store, so you’ll need to bring your own food. There is no electricity or running water, but there is a gas stove for cooking, firewood for lighting a fire, and candles. Water can be collected from a natural spring. The hut is otherwise equipped with everything you need for cooking and your stay: kitchenware, crockery, duvets and pillows. You must bring your own sleeping bag liner or bed linen.

Level of service: Unstaffed

Sleeping capacity: 19 beds
