A taste of Sunnmøre – shaped by the mountains
Stranda tastes like Sunnmøre – crisp, bold and full of contrasts. This is where mountain traditions run deep, and where the landscape leaves its mark on every flavour. Hand-pressed apple juice, local cider and warm sourdough all tell the same story – one of craftsmanship, care and a strong sense of place.
Stranda is known across Norway for Grandiosa pizza and dry-cured ham. But the real taste of the region is found in small cafés, bakeries and farm shops, where everything is made with passion – and served with views of mountains, waterfalls and wide open sky.
The Sunnmøre Alps - The peaks that rise from the fjord
Strandafjellet is one of the top ski destinations in the region – known for deep powder, long runs and incredible views. Whether you are carving turns with the family or chasing untouched snow, winter here feels big, wild and close.
But this is just one season. The Roalden gondola runs all year, lifting you straight into a landscape made for exploring. From here, you can hike panoramic ridges like Strandaegga, follow quiet trails to mountain farms, or pause by still lakes where the only sound is the wind.
If you want to explore further – or steeper – local guides can take you there. Whether ski touring in winter or hiking in summer, they bring the insight, safety and stories that turn a mountain trip into a real adventure.
Where waterfalls roar and time slows down
Stranda is a land of contrasts – where water shapes the valleys and the pace of life is your own. In Hellesylt, you can dip into a floating sauna, leap from a diving tower, or follow the winding road through Norangsdalen, where still waters mirror both mountains and the sunken ruins of Lygnstøylsvatnet. From the centre of Stranda, a riverside path follows Storelva out into the landscape. No fences, no noise – just fresh air, fast water and space to feel alive.
In Geiranger, you will find cafés, galleries and a quiet buzz of life, set against one of the world’s most dramatic fjord landscapes. The waterfalls are a story in themselves. Paddle beneath The Seven Sisters, walk behind the veil of Storsæterfossen, or sit beside the rushing Hellesylt waterfall and feel the power in the spray and sound.
