Flavours from the valley
The restaurant at Byrkjedalstunet serves everything from traditional farmhouse fare to exquisite banquet dishes. The dishes are made with fresh, local ingredients from the forest, mountains and fjord. The speciality is the farm's own Hereford beef, which is used in the popular meatballs known as ‘Anna's meatballs’. The menu also includes trout and sour cream porridge every day, as well as dishes that vary according to season and availability.
A restaurant with history in its walls
The walls of the restaurant are decorated with old photographs and objects from the former cheese dairy and local homes from the mid-1800s. These elements tell stories from the valley and give the restaurant a unique and warm atmosphere.
Traditional baking in a wood-fired oven
Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday – and daily during high season – the bakery at Byrkjedalstunet is filled with the aroma of freshly baked bread and pastries. A wood-fired stone oven is used here, and among the specialities you will find Byrkjedalsbrød, baked according to an old recipe from the area. The historic baking oven in the restaurant is built on the foundations of the old cheese factory's factory pipe and is an enlarged replica of a traditional oven from the valley. Fresh bread and cakes are available for sale both in the bakery and in the restaurant.
