Easy trip, flexible return

With Pulpit Rock Tours, you can focus on the experience – not traffic, parking or logistics. The bus takes you directly from Stavanger to the trailhead, so you can relax until it’s time to start hiking.

The journey takes about 50 minutes and includes a drive through the Ryfylke Tunnel, the world’s longest subsea road tunnel (14.4 km, 292 metres below sea level).

Want to make more of it than a day trip? Your return ticket is valid for up to four days, so you can stay longer and explore more of the area.

Hike to Preikestolen

The hike to Preikestolen is one of Norway’s most popular and iconic mountain walks.

When is the best time to go?

You can hike year-round, but May to October usually offers the best conditions. June and July are peak season and the busiest months.

How demanding is the hike?

It’s considered moderately challenging:
• 330 metres of elevation gain
• 8 km round trip
• 4–5 hours in total

Time varies depending on fitness and experience on uneven terrain. If you’re hiking with children or less experienced walkers, plan for extra time.

At Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock)

The reward is waiting at the top. After the climb, the landscape opens up, and you step onto the plateau – 604 metres above the Lysefjord. The view over the mountains and the fjord is powerful, and for many it becomes a memory for life.

Just remember to keep a safe distance from the edge. You don’t need to be Tom Cruise to have an amazing experience up here.

Make more of it

With Pulpit Rock Tours, you always have a flexible return: your ticket back to Stavanger can be used for up to four days after your outbound trip. So why not experience a little more while you’re in the area?

You can camp nearby (not on the plateau itself) for a quieter, more atmospheric experience – or choose more comfortable accommodation close to the start of the trail.

And if you want more nature experiences, there’s plenty to pick from: the scenic Panorama Trail, a challenging hike to Kjerag/Kjeragbolten, or a Lysefjord cruise and kayaking.

Ready for your next nature experience?
