From Veraland, follow the marked trail towards Krosstjørna. The area has an extensive network of trails and several options for both shorter and longer circular hikes, so follow the signs towards Bukkaknuten along the way.

Up towards Bukkaknuten

As you gain elevation, the landscape gradually opens up. Forest and wetlands give way to bare rock and heathland, and from Bukkaknuten you can enjoy wide views in several directions.

From the summit, you can return towards Veraland or extend your hike. One option is to continue across the higher ground and descend towards Svedalen. From here, you can take the shortest route back or extend the hike via Dyrafjellet and Husafjellet. Another option is to walk via Nonsknuten and around Krosstjørna before returning to the parking area at Veraland.

Bukkaknuten can also be reached from Ims and Tengesdalsvatnet, but these are different routes with varying distances and levels of difficulty.

A varied hiking area

The landscape around Veraland is characterised by wetlands, pine forest and open heathland. The area has a rich variety of wildlife and birdlife, and you may even be lucky enough to spot deer or moose. In late summer and autumn, there are also good opportunities for picking berries and mushrooms.

Be prepared and show consideration

The hike to Bukkaknuten passes through varied mountain and uncultivated terrain with some ascent. Wear footwear with good grip, dress for the weather and follow the trail markings. Be aware that wet sections and exposed rock can be slippery. Keep a safe distance from grazing animals, keep dogs under control and close gates behind you. Assess the weather and trail conditions as you go.
