At Boretunet near Bore beach on Jæren, you can take part in a beach clean-up and learn more about marine plastic pollution. At Havplastfabrikken, you can also discover how some of the collected plastic can be processed and used to make new objects.

From beach clean-up to plastic workshop

The experience begins with a beach clean-up along Bore beach. Participants collect plastic and other marine litter that has washed ashore along the Jæren coast. Along the way, you'll learn more about where plastic waste comes from and the challenges plastic pollution poses to marine life.

After the beach clean-up, the activity continues at Havplastfabrikken at Boretunet. Here, the plastic is sorted, and materials suitable for further processing are washed and shredded into small pieces.

The plastic pieces can then be melted and pressed into different moulds. Examples of objects that can be made include keyrings, flowerpots and small figures. You'll get to follow the process from collected plastic waste to a new object.

An educational activity for groups

Havplastfabrikken combines practical beach cleaning with learning about plastic pollution, materials and recycling. The activity is particularly suitable for school classes, families and other groups interested in learning more about plastic in the sea through hands-on activities.
