From Fidjeland towards the summit

The walk starts at the ski resort at Fidjeland. Follow the marked route uphill along the ski lift. The climb begins early on and continues for much of the ascent. Eventually, the route turns left and passes the lake Svartopstjødna, which is used as a water reservoir for the production of artificial snow.

You then continue through open high-mountain terrain towards Hilleknuten. From the summit, you’ll have unobstructed views in all directions and a magnificent panorama of the mountains, valleys and lakes of Sirdal.

Return via Jogledalen

You can follow the same route back, but the most common circular route continues from the summit down through Jogledalen. This route is longer than the direct route along the ski lift, but the descent is less steep.

Follow the markings through the valley and back towards Fidjeland. The terrain varies between mountain trail, scree, rock and wet sections. It can therefore be challenging to walk, particularly after heavy rainfall.

A challenging hike in the high mountains

Hilleknuten is a challenging day hike in exposed mountain terrain. The weather can change rapidly, and snowdrifts may remain well into the summer. Check the weather forecast and local conditions before setting off, and bring warm clothing, rainwear, food and plenty to drink. Wear sturdy hiking boots and bring a map or a downloaded route that works without mobile coverage.

Allow plenty of time, and turn back if the weather, visibility or going becomes poor. Show consideration for grazing animals, keep your dog under control and take all your rubbish back with you.

Recommended season: May–October, depending on snow and weather conditions.
