Kvadrat is one of the largest shopping centres in Norway, both in terms of turnover and floor space. You will find 160 stores in various sectors, of which clothing/shoes/fashion is the largest single sector with around 60 stores. The centre was opened on 26 April 1984 and has been rebuilt and modernised several times. In 2023, Kvadrat won the prestigious award for Shopping Centre of the Year under the auspices of the Norsk Retail Hub.
Get the holiday feeling at Kvadrat
Kvadrat is a popular shopping centre with many great offers. Feel free to spend the whole day here if the holiday weather doesn't encourage outdoor activities. Start the day with a good café breakfast at one of Kvadrat's many cafés, then browse the shops until you find your favourites. You can even treat yourself to a little self-care; how about a haircut, a visit to the barbershop, some skincare, nail care or make-up tips? For the little ones, the "Kvadratbilen" (the Kvadrat car) is a popular way to get your "driving licence" (NOK 50 per hour).
Food and drink at Kvadrat
After a round of shopping and self-care, perhaps it's time for lunch? The centre has a wide range of food options - everything from Mexican, Japanese, Italian and Asian fusion to traditional Norwegian food. When the weather is nice, several eateries have outdoor seating in the summer. A little more action awaits the children after lunch, where they can game at Einherjar eSport or play video games at HighScore Arcade. Kvadrat also has an indoor balance park on the third floor, south (US/UK: second floor), and a playground outside entrance C.
BREEAM and Eco Lighthouse
Kvadrat is certified according to both BREEAM In-Use and Eco Lighthouse standards and places a strong focus on energy-efficient operations, tenant engagement, and a healthy indoor environment. In 2025, we received the Sustainability Award from Norsk Retail Hub. As a shopping centre largely accessed by car, we actively work to increase the share of visitors choosing public transport, cycling, or other more sustainable forms of transportation. We provide covered bicycle parking as well as secure bicycle lockers. Kvadrat also features one of the region's largest electric vehicle charging facilities and a modern waste sorting system. Today, more than 70 per cent of all waste generated at the centre is sorted.
Hidden oasis on the rooftop
At the top of Kvadrat lies a hidden oasis that not everyone knows about. Here you will find a home for a wide variety of pollinating insects. On the rooftop, insects can check into a five-star insect hotel, feed, and find shelter among 240 square metres of sedum vegetation. In cooperation with PlanBi, we aim to highlight the important role bees play in the ecosystem. The honey produced by our bees is sold at the Service Centre/Tourist Information Office and is a locally sourced product with the unique taste of the surrounding nature.
How do I get to Kvadrat?
Kvadrat shopping centre is located just off the E39 motorway, a 12-minute drive from Stavanger and five minutes from Sandnes. There are over 2,000 free parking spaces, 900 of which are covered. There are several hundred bus connections to various locations in the vicinity of Kvadrat every day. Please note that the bus stop in the direction of Sandnes is called 'Kvadrat A', and the one in the direction of Stavanger is called 'Kvadrat B'.
