Escape the crowds and experience Pulpit Rock (Preikestolen) in a way few visitors do. This private hike follows lesser-known trails with spectacular viewpoints high above Lysefjord, offering a more peaceful and exclusive experience than the standard route.

Hidden viewpoints, quiet mountain landscapes and a relaxed pace combine to create one of the most unique and scenic adventures in the Stavanger region. Together with your guide, you'll discover places that most visitors never see while enjoying plenty of time to take in the surroundings.

What you can experience

Your adventure begins with pickup in Stavanger before driving to the trailhead. After a short introduction, the hike follows an alternative route through forests, rocky terrain and open mountain landscapes with breathtaking views of Lysefjord.

Unlike the busy main trail, the Back Track offers solitude, dramatic scenery and several viewpoints above Pulpit Rock itself. Along the way, there is plenty of time for breaks, photography and learning about the nature and history of the area.

Eventually, you reach Pulpit Rock (Preikestolen), where you can enjoy one of Norway's most famous views before continuing through beautiful mountain terrain on the return journey.

For guests looking for something truly special, an optional canoe crossing on a peaceful mountain lake can be arranged for an additional cost, weather and conditions permitting.

Throughout the day, your guide adapts the pace to your group, making sure you have time to enjoy the scenery, capture memories and experience the mountains without rushing.

The route is more demanding than the standard Pulpit Rock hike and is best suited for guests with good mobility and moderate fitness. No technical climbing is required, but some sections involve uneven terrain and steeper ascents.

Practical information

The route and pace are adapted to weather conditions and the wishes of your group. The tour typically lasts 7–9 hours, including transport, breaks and plenty of time to enjoy the views.

Because parts of the route are less travelled and not signposted, this hike should only be undertaken with local knowledge and proper planning. Hotel and cruise port pickup in the Stavanger region can be arranged.

An optional canoe crossing on a mountain lake can be added for guests seeking an even more memorable experience. This activity is weather-dependent and available at an additional cost.
