Ryvarden – at the edge of Fjord Norway

Ryvardsneset stretches far out into the sea, as if the landscape itself is guiding you to the very edge of Fjord Norway. Here you meet an open, weather-shaped coastal landscape with wide horizons and powerful nature experiences – a feeling of being far out, yet close to what truly matters.

What will you find at Ryvarden?

Around the Ryvarden lighthouse you’ll find historic buildings that today house Galleri Ryvarden and a café. The area is a meeting place for art, culture and everyday coastal life, where nature still sets the pace.

The former lighthouse keeper’s residence has been preserved and can be rented for accommodation. Ryvarden is also suitable for small gatherings and events in distinctive surroundings, right by the open sea.

How do you get there?

The walk to Ryvarden starts in Mølstrevåg and follows a well-maintained gravel road all the way to the lighthouse. The distance is about 2 kilometres one way, and the walk is easy and suitable for most visitors.

Many visitors set aside half a day, allowing time for the walk, a break by the lighthouse and to take in the landscape. It’s easy to stay longer than planned.

Views and landscape

At Ryvarden, the landscape opens up with wide views towards the North Sea, Sletta, Bømlafjorden and the islands further west. Light, weather and waves constantly change the experience, making every visit different.

A place for reflection

Near the lighthouse stands a memorial to the 16 people who lost their lives in the Sleipner ferry disaster in 1999, which occurred nearby. The memorial offers a quiet moment for reflection on life along the coast and the power of the sea.
