Nordfjordeid is beautifully located in the heart of Nordfjord. The village has a rich history stretching back to the Viking Age and is today a vibrant cultural hub with opera, a rock festival and several historic sites. Here you can visit a Viking ship, ride fjord horses and attend an opera – all in the same day.
Nature and Scenery
Nordfjordeid is surrounded by mountains and lush landscapes. From the charming city center, with its old wooden houses, you can look out across the fjord and the green mountainsides stretching into the distance. The river Eidselva flows gently through the village – a salmon river with a long tradition of sport fishing. From the town center, you can hike up to Trollnykjen for a stunning view of the fjord. Just eleven kilometers from town lies Harpefossen Ski Center, which offers downhill slopes and large areas for off-piste skiing in winter.

Activities
Nordfjordeid offers several great hiking trails in and around the village. You can stroll through the idyllic Eidsgata with its historic wooden houses or walk along the beautiful river. A favorite for visitors of all ages is the hike to the Dagsturhytta at Naustdalskamben and the walk to Lottstøylen. This picturesque mountain farm feels like a postcard from another era, and you’ll enjoy beautiful views over Nordfjord.
For those who want to get out on the fjord, local operators offer RIB boat tours and kayak rentals. Nordfjordeid is also home to the Norwegian Fjord Horse Center – the national center of expertise of the fjord horse. Here you can get up close with Norway’s national horse breed and enjoy panoramic horseback rides with views over the village and valley. If the weather isn’t cooperating, you can bring the whole family for an exciting climbing experience in Norway’s only Viking Warrior Room at Hamna Activity Center.

Culture and History
Nordfjordeid is one of the most historically important places in Nordfjord. At Sagastad Viking Center, you can step aboard the Myklebust Ship – a reconstruction of the largest Viking ship ever found in Norway. The center features interactive exhibits, VR experiences and offers a fascinating look into the Viking Age.
Every summer, this small village is transformed when the festival Malakoff takes over. With more than 20,000 visitors and one of the country’s largest festival campsites, it is one of the biggest festivals in Western Norway. The rest of the year, the Nordfjord Opera House hosts world-class concerts, theater and opera – a venue that has put Nordfjordeid on the map as an important cultural destination.
