Here you will find an overview of day-trip cabins in the Haugesund region. The day-trip cabins can be visited every day all year round, but overnight stays are not permitted.

Tuabua at Tuastad (mainland Karmøy)

Tuabua is easily accessible on mainland Karmøy and is a good choice for short walks. The hike starts from the car park at Tuastad Community House (Gamle Tuastadvegen 30, 5546 Røyksund) and takes around 10–15 minutes on foot. The access is universally designed and suitable for pushchairs and people using electric wheelchairs. The cabin is open all year and has a toilet.

Lindøy

Ved badeplassen på Lindøy har Frilager Haugalandet selvbetjent utleie av kano og sit-on-top kajakk fra mai til oktober. Flytevest og padleåre følger med.

Thon Senter Oasen is located at Norheim in Karmøy Municipality, approx. 5 km south of Haugesund. Here you will find 65 shops, cosy eateries and free parking.

Alvanuten in Tysvær

At Alvanuten, 225 metres above sea level, you will find the day-trip cabin in Tysvær. The hike starts from the car park at Tysværtunet Kulturhus. Follow Aksdalsvegen and then Alvanutvegen to the end of the road, where the path begins. The route is well signposted and easy to follow. The trail climbs steeply towards the summit and can be soft and slippery in places. The walk is about 1.5 km each way, with approximately 179 metres of ascent, and takes around 20–30 minutes uphill. It can be walked all year round and is suitable for both children and adults, but is not universally designed.

Tysværtunet Badeanlegg, in Aksdal, offers lovely bathing temperatures all year round. The bathing centre has two pools, one of which is a children's pool, a diving tower, slide and sauna.

GP Café Tysværtunet is a café, catering, party and conference venue. The premises are located in Tysværtunet Kulturhus in Aksdal.

Vindbalhytta on Utsira

Vindbalhytta is located on the island of Utsira, Norway’s smallest municipality, and offers a unique combination of island life, cultural landscape and open sea. The scheduled ferry MS Utsira departs from Garpaskjærskaien in Haugesund, with a crossing time of around 70 minutes.

From the car park at Brakko in Sørevågen, it is about a 200-metre walk to the cabin. It is also possible to walk from Nordvikvågen (approximately 2 km one way). The final 100 metres can be wet during periods of heavy rain. The cabin is open all year, has a wood-burning stove (bring your own firewood), and is suitable for most visitors. Vadhytta in Vindafjord

Vadhytta can be reached from both Bjoa and Ølensvåg and offers an easily accessible walk in pleasant surroundings. From Bjoa, follow Eikåsvegen to the signposted car park, with a clearly marked route onwards to the cabin. This walk is approximately 1.4 km each way and runs through gentle terrain suitable for pushchairs, wheelchairs and bicycles.

If you start from Ølensvåg, turn off the E134 onto Bjoavegen and continue to Duelandsvegen, where parking is available. From here, the walk is longer, around 3.7 km each way, and begins with a steeper section before the terrain levels out near the top. Vadhytta is open all year, has a toilet and a wood-burning stove (bring your own firewood), and is well suited for both children and adults.

Kongsbu on Bokn

The walk to the day-trip cabin on Bokn can start from several locations and is well suited for both children and adults. You can park either at Bokn Church or at Bokn Arena/Føresvik, and both options are clearly signposted. From Bokn Church, the walk is around 5 km return, either as a circular route or out and back the same way. Starting from Føresvik makes the walk shorter, approximately 3 km return.

Most of the route follows gravel roads and paths through gently undulating terrain, passing grazing land and woodland. The final 500 metres follow a tractor track. The path is lit, but note that there is no lighting on the final section approaching the cabin. The cabin is open all year, has a toilet and a wood-burning stove (bring your own firewood).

At the southwestern tip of Vestre Bokn, are the remains of a German fortress from World War II. Thea area offers hiking opportunities and great view of the mighty sea.

Boknafjellet Mountain is in the municipality of Bokn, and it is a landmark with its 294 metres above sea level.

Varøy on Vibrandsøy

The day-trip cabin on Vibrandsøy in Haugesund is open all year. The trip starts from Indre Kai in Haugesund, where you take a boat crossing of approximately five minutes. From the quay on Vibrandsøy, the route follows a gravel road north through old farmyards before continuing on a path across grassy meadows and pastureland. The surface allows for pushchairs on parts of the route, but the path is not suitable for wheelchairs or rollators. After crossing the bridge to Varøy, the walk continues on a path, with a short but slightly steep slope up to the cabin at the very end. The walk from the quay to the cabin takes around 20 minutes. The cabin is self-service, has a wood-burning stove (bring your own firewood), but no toilet. The cabin is located 12 metres above sea level and is open all year.

Nuten in Haugesund

The day-trip cabin on Nuten is reached via a marked trail from Stallvegen in Haugesund. Parking is available behind Haugesund Riding Club, and if you arrive by bus, you can take route 201 towards Bleikemyr and get off at Bevertunet. From there, it is around a 750-metre walk to the start of the trail. The walk is approximately 1.5 km each way, with an ascent of 141 metres, and takes around 30 minutes uphill. The trail is well marked and suitable for both children and adults, but is not universally designed. The route can be walked all year.

Nipaståvo in Sveio

Nipaståvo is located near Skyggjeberget, along the hiking trail from Stølen in Auklandshamn towards Emberlandsnipen. Parking is available at Stølen in Auklandshamn, with the starting point at Auklandshamn School.

The path runs through light terrain with deciduous and pine forest, with steady and moderate ascent throughout. The walk follows a good trail and is suitable for families used to hiking, but is not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs. The cabin is located at around 170 metres above sea level.

The walk is approximately 2.7 km one way, with around 221 metres of ascent, and takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes at a relaxed pace. The cabin is equipped with a wood-burning stove and a toilet, and can be used all year.

Ryvarden Kulturfyr

Ryvarden Lighthouse and Cultural Centre - cafe

Ryvarden cultural lighthouse in Sveio has a café, art gallery, and shop, open Sundays and public holidays from March to November. The walk takes 30 minutes.

Golfaståvo in Sveio Golf Park

Signposted parking for visitors is available at Leitevegen, close to Sveio Golf Park. The walk starts here and passes through a green and well-maintained park area adjacent to the golf course, just a short distance from Sveio town centre. The area consists of open grassy areas, pine forest and well-kept gravel paths, offering a calm and easy walking experience.

The path to the day-trip cabin Golfståvo follows wide gravel roads and is easy to walk for most people. The walk is around 2 km one way from the clubhouse and can be combined into various circular routes of 2 or 4 km within the golf park. Outside the cabin, there are benches overlooking the golf course, making it easy to stop and rest for a while.

The circular route is approximately 3.7 km long, takes around 1 hour and 25 minutes, and has moderate ascent. The cabin has a wood-burning stove, and there is a toilet near the car park. The path is suitable for pushchairs and some electric wheelchairs, but not for manual wheelchairs.

Leiteshaugen in Etne

From Etne town centre, drive approximately 1.5 km east along the E134 before turning right just before the bridge. From there, follow the road over Fossa for around 2 km, then turn right onto Rusvegen – a private gravel road. After approximately 4 km, you reach the car park. Parking costs NOK 40 and is paid via Vipps. From the car park, the trail onwards is signposted.

The walk to the day-trip cabin is approximately 1.5 km one way and takes around 40 minutes. Much of the route follows a gravel road, but the final 150 metres follow a marshy path across open terrain. There is some uphill walking at the start of the route. The cabin is located at approximately 593 metres above sea level and has both a wood-burning stove and a toilet. The route is not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs.
