Astruptunet is idyllically situated by the Jølstravatnet lake, surrounded by lush nature. Here you can stand where Astrup stood at his easel, and experience the magic portrayed in his art.
For art lovers and families, the homestead offers a journey through Astrup’s life and work. Discover Engel Astrup’s textile art, which has received renewed attention in recent years. Round off your visit in the newly refurbished café, where you can enjoy homemade waffles, pancakes or local coffee – all with a view of the beautiful landscape. In the gift shop you will find Astrup prints, postcards and local handicrafts. An inspiring meeting between art and nature for all generations!
Food, drinks and gift shop
The café offers homemade cakes, waffles and coffee. In the summer, we also have ice cream. The gift shop offers a selection of tote bags, t-shirts, napkins, postcards and posters.
Guided tours
Group tours must be booked in advance by calling +47 99 20 26 76 or via e-mail: solber@misf.no. Unless you only have a ticket for the gallery, tours are included for all individual paying visitors.
Accessibility
We want Astruptunet to be accessible to all. However, the fact that the site is on a steep hillside offers a challenge for visitors with disabilities. The access road leading from the parking lot is a steep and narrow gravel path without guard rails –constructed by Nikolai Astrup himself. It is not recommended for wheelchair users. Please contact us with any questions.
Season
The museum is open from mid-May to mid-September. Please visit our website for detailed opening hours.
Only 20 km from Astruptunet, you’ll find the Eikaas Gallery, featuring one of the most innovative artists of the post-war era. Through 2025-26, you can experience the exhibition “Lifethread – from Home to Studio”. Here you will get to know the people involved in the rich Jølster weaving and homecraft traditions, and learn about their links to the wider community.
