Well, the views certainly will anyway. How about trying new and perhaps less well known summit trips when there are fewer people around?
Lihesten – The wildest wall of the Fjord Coast
Wild. Breathtaking. Vertical. Lihesten is the kind of mountain you never forget. With its jagged silhouette and dramatic cliff formations, it looks like nature had a wild idea – and it really did.
On Lihesten, you get both magical views and the raw, real feeling of true mountain adventure.
Did you know that ...
Around 400 million years ago, Lihesten lay at the bottom of a deep valley, high up in the Caledonian mountain range?
Alden – The Most Photogenic Horse in Fjord Norway
Alden, also known as “The Norwegian Horse”, is more than just a mountain – it’s an icon. Rising almost vertically from the sea, this 481-metre peak is visible from more than 100 kilometres offshore, and is one of the most iconic sea marks on the Norwegian west coast.
The hike to the top is airy, steep, and unforgettable – and once you’re up there, the view will truly take your breath away.
This is one of the most spectacular mountain hikes you can do. Period.
Hike to Blåfjell
In Askvoll, we can also recommend a hike up Blåfjell. The trail climbs steadily towards the summit at 533 metres above sea level. At the top, a wide and open view awaits, where you can take in the distinctive fjord landscape that characterises the area.
Storehesten – an Icon of Sunnfjord
You feel it long before you reach the summit – this mountain is not like the others. Storehesten lives up to its name: majestic, powerful, and impossible to ignore.

Heileberget, also known as Fløgen, rises from the Dalsfjord, and from the summit you’ll see mountain ranges stretching across the landscape, clusters of islands, and the ocean shimmering on the horizon. Take your time to enjoy the stunning views from the top – a perfect hike for adventurous nature lovers.
Pollatinden – the Queen of the Island Kingdom Solund
Pollatinden, 541 metres above sea level, is not the highest mountain you’ll climb, but it is certainly one of the most majestic in Solund.
Steep, rugged and dramatic – yet still within reach. And from the summit? An endless tapestry of islands, islets and skerries.
Hamnanova – a Family-Friendly hike with stunning views
A hike to Hamnanova, 750 metres above sea level, offers a fantastic nature experience for the whole family. The trail takes you through varied terrain with a steady ascent of about 350 metres – just the right amount of challenge for both young and old adventurers.
Once at the top, you’ll be rewarded with a spectacular view over Jølstravatnet, Kjøsnesfjorden, and the majestic mountains that frame the landscape.

Lundeskaret – a true mountain classic in Jølster
Lundeskaret is more than just a hike – it’s an iconic mountain experience and perhaps the closest you’ll get to a true classic in Jølster.
The trail winds dramatically up the narrow and wild pass at the end of Kjøsnesfjorden, surrounded by sheer mountain walls and raw natural forces. This is Norway’s steepest DNT-marked hiking trail, so you’ll need to be in good shape and have knees that can handle the ascent!
