Jærmuseet's task as a museum is to document and convey the recent history of the region, as a science centre they must create interest in natural science and technology. The Jærmuseet consists of 12 facilities.

Jærmuseet is the regional museum for the municipalities of Randaberg, Sola, Sandnes, Gjesdal, Klepp, Time and Hå, as well as the regional science centre for South-West Norway.
